We have plenty of food here but we have to ration our favorites (for example the Lindt chocolate!!) or otherwise we would soon run out (and we can’t get any resupply during the winter as the temperatures are too cold for the planes to fly).

Good day, this is Adrianos from Greece, I am Beth’s predecessor as a research doctor for the European Space Agency in Antarctica and I am filling in for her today due to connectivity problems over there.

Concordia Station, where we conduct our research, is built and supported by Italy and France. The two countries make sure that the Base is well supplied with food provisions for more than a year. We also melt ice to have drinkable water – and we clean and recycle the waste water to wash the dishes or have a shower. We do of course have to be very careful with our provisions, particularly with water consumption, but there is no strict rationing. The crew of Concordia also shares a limited internet connection and a phone to call home. We do have rules on how to utilize these so that the commodities are evenly split among the crew members and their use is regulated.
