• Question: If we were to genetically modify a egg cell then replant it into a womb could we create a human that is capable of living in space with no support? on a related note could me modify seeds and sapling to terraform another planet for us to expand onto?

      Simon: Hi Sheldon! I am little out of my depth on this question considering I am not a geneticist! I think with our current knowledge of genetics and biology it would not be possible to create a human for unsupported life in space. I think much more likely is the modification of plant life to be able to grow on different planets to terraform them. I am sure Anne can say a lot more on this topic!

      Hi Sheldon!

      This is pretty complex stuff! I guess this is one of the exciting things about research, having the opportunity to test new ideas and find new things out! From your questions it sounds like you have lot’s of ideas and like to find out new things so perhaps being a researcher is something you should consider!

      With regards to genetically modifying humans though there are lot’s of ethical and legal considerations to think about too even when something may be theoretically possible.

      I will leave the plant side to Anne as it’s quite a while ago that I did plant biology at school so i’m a bit rusty!
