I take snow samples for an experiment called ‘bacfinder’ – literally ‘finding bacteria’. The conditions here at Concordia are really extreme, and similar to other planets like Mars. This is why Concordia is often referred to as ‘White Mars’.

So the snow samples I take are analysed to look for bacteria. Bacteria has only once been found to survive outside here at Concordia. If we find more which are able to survive the conditions here then perhaps they could also be found or be able to live on other planets like Mars!!
