COL FD (Simon): Hi Alexis and Masaru!

I started training as a Columbus Flight Director in January 2009. I became certified in October the same year. One of my great inspirations has always been Gene Kranz the famous Apollo 13 flight director.

He knew exactly how to bring together a mutlititude of expert engineers and operators to focus on a problem and solve it!

I encourage you to read his book, “Failure is not an Option”. It is somewhere between a Bible and Manual for anyone who wants to work as a flight controller/flight director for Human Space Flight.

I have also drawn alot of inspiration from my work colleagues around me: for their professionalism, their patience but most of all because they care so much about their work and for their strong beliefs in the value of what they do.
