  The temperatures we experience here mean that it would not be possible to survive outside without specialist polar equipment for more than a few minutes. During the winter the temperatures are as low as -80C (-100C if you consider the wind)!
  
  Inside the base is comfortable though and I’m writing this message to you wearing flip flops!
