Hello, ZEBEAST! This is Adrianos from Greece, I am Beth’s predecessor as a research doctor for the European Space Agency in Antarctica and I am filling in for her today due to connectivity problems over there. I’ll try to answer your question from the viewpoint of scientists in the remote Concordia research Station in Antarctica:

Yes, you do have time to socialize – and actually socializing is quite important when you live stranded with a small crew at a far away place! For two reasons: first, it makes you feel better to share ideas, chat or play games with other humans beings rather than working all day or watching movies alone. It is refreshing to share moments. Secondly, it helps the crew become a team and develop!

      Simon: Hey Zebeast!

Although we work hard at the Columbus Control Centre, we also play hard too 😉 . Which is a challenge when you work alot of strange hours like we do.

Although we are not isolated in Antarctica, I would agree with Adrianos that also socialising with your work colleagues is good for team building. We do however have the advantage of socialising with fresh faces too 😉 .
