      Simon: Hi Imo! Good Question! Apart from the fact that being a Columbus Flight Director is the coolest space job you can have in Europe after being an astronaut – and we want to share our experiences with the winning school – we also want to try to take you to a real life spacecraft control centre in the UK.

      When I was your age, I knew I wanted to work in Space but I wasnt sure what. I still didnt know when I left university! But then I discovered Spacecraft Operations. Its the unsung hero of the space industry. Everyone focuses on Astronauts or the Engineers that build and test the spacecraft but less so on the engineers you need to support operations!

      We want to show the winning school how exciting that is…. dealing with failures, developing operational workarounds (or as well call it: learning how to really operate it!), new ways of operating as the mission matures, how to dispose of a spacecraft at end of life (especially important as space around Earth starts to get crowded – like in Gravity!) . Vote for us and we’ll show you how!
